CEDAR RIDGE RHINESTONE: "MY BEAUTIFUL JEWEL"
2001-2008
    THE JEWEL AT MY BED

I stood beside your bed last night, I came to have a look.
You were trying not to cry; I know how much it took.

I whined to you so softly as you brushed away the tears,
 “It’s me, I haven’t left you. I’m fine, I’m well, I’m here.

I was close to you this morning, although you didn't see,
You were thinking of the many times your hand reached down to me.

I was with you in the field today, your legs were getting sore.
I longed to find the birds for you, I wish I could do more.

I was with you at my grave today, You tend it with such care.
I want to reassure you, I am not lying there.

I hunted with you this afternoon, the air was crisp and cool.
I quickly found the birds for you, I smiled and said “It’s Jewel.”

I followed you to the house, as you fumbled for the key.
I gently put my paw on you, I barked and said “It’s me!”

You looked so very tired as you sank into your chair.
I tried so hard to tell you that I was standing there.

It is possible for me to be so near you everyday.
To tell you with certainty, “I never went away.”

You sat there very quietly, then smiled, I think you knew...
In the stillness of the evening that I was close to you.

Now the day is over...I stretch and watch you yawning
I say “goodnight, God bless, I’ll see you in the morning.

And when the time is right for you to cross the great divide
I’ll rush down to greet you and we’ll be side by side.

I have so many birds to show you, there is so much for you to see.
Be patient, live your journey out... then come home to hunt with me.
